We Compete! The Rosemount ATA Black Belt Academy is a tournament competing school. We attend all 4 regional tournaments and the Songham World TaeKwonDo Championships. Some of our students also attend many other ATA tournaments throughout the USA.
Students may also compete in one or more of the following:
Forms: Al l students may compete in forms
One Steps: White, Orange, and Yellow Belt an d above may compete in One Step Sparring.
Free Sparring: All students Camo Belt and above may compete in free sparr ing.
Weapons: All students are allowed to compete in weapons forms.
The following is our tournament schedule.
Spring: Every spring we attend the Regional Championships right here in Eagan at the Eagan Civic Center. This tournament is hosted by my instructor, 6th Degree Black Belt Mr. Dave Youngman.
Summer: Every summer we attend the Fargo North Dakota Regional Tourna ment hosted by Mr. Tim McKay.
Fall: Every fall we attend the Sioux Falls South Dakota Regional Tournament hosted by Senior Mast er Larry Hoover.
Winter: Every winter we attend the Sheldon Iowa Regional Tournament hosted by Senior Master Robert Jaeger. ATA tournaments are conducted with the concept of personal victory. All younger competitors receive a trophy just for competing. At the Rosemount ATA we do not display the trophies we win in the school because we feel that it over-emphasizes winning and under-emphasizes personal victory.
Our primary goals for all competing students are: 1. Make a friend. 2. Have fun. 3. Do your best.
We recommend that all students try one tournament during their training, but students should never feel pressured to compete. They should only compete because they want to.
